11.12.13 Today in the life of…

November 12, 2013 | Post a Comment

Dear blog,

I’M SO SORRY! It has recently been brought to my attention that this blog hasn’t had any sort of current action for a good number of months now. I don’t want to attempt figuring the number out, because then I will be ashamed of myself. Also, I despise math, and my calculator is in the other room, so…

Some of you know (some may not), and those who don’t know, may care to know that I moved to the east coast about four months ago. On August 13th, 2013, I packed all of my important belongings into three suitcases, hopped on a plane with a one-way ticket, and officially moved to Virginia. Technically, I was in upstate New York for a week and some change, but from there I ended up settling down into good old northern Virginia. Despite all of my extreme excitement and anticipation for what the future could possibly bring to myself and my business, I have been faced with a couple of limitations on the business front. Some such drawbacks include:

-Woops, can’t upload too many things! There’s a data-cap on the internet at the house I’m currently residing at, which means I’m very limited on what I can upload/download for most of the day, unless I want to start wading into the murky land of data-overage fee’s (which I do NOT). So, as much as I’d love to throw photo-storm parties on a daily basis and clog up all of your feeds with pretty pictures, I can’t. I COULD, if I had the extra money to pitch in for the overages, but let me repeat my previous statement: I CAN’T.

-Surprise! Moving to an entirely new place, where you know a grand total of 5-6 people decently well, there isn’t an abundance of clients anticipating hiring you to work for them. Luckily, I did have some semblance of an idea on how to get started again. Also patience (somewhat).

-Oh my beautiful countryside that I’ve always wanted to explore! How do I explore you without a car or money!? As I quickly figured out upon moving to Virginia, despite the fact that I had (admittedly, half-assedly) saved money to last through AT LEAST the first month or two, money runs out fast. Like, really fast. Like, lasted me less than a month. Despite the fact that I was out of my mind with excitement to trek through some fields and photograph some bales of hay in artsy angles, without a car to travel in, or money to give to new friends and family to pitch in for gas, I wasn’t going far very fast. And everything out here is very far away.

I suppose those have been the biggest obstacles that I’ve faced thus far. Some of them have proven more challenging than others, yet, in the end, they’re only obstacles. Slowly but surely, I’m learning to overcome them; climb over them, or go around them. I have a car now (Fiat 500, ftw!)! I’m making new friends! I’m learning of the places in town that have free wifi (and delicious coffee). Its been one grand adventure, without a doubt. In any case, I suppose I just wanted to update you all on why my blog has been less than quiet over the past number of months. I’ve been posting recent work, as well as working at getting some of my nature and landscape images transformed into sell-able prints…just not on this site. I promise to get better at it!

If you frequent my blog and have been wondering where to find my recent work, here are the top two links I’ve been keeping up with:

My portfolio is also clearly in need of an update with recent work, so keep your beadies peeled! I’m going to be making it a point to stay current with all of my sites. There’s so much I want to show you all! :)

3.13.13 Kaitlyn’s Bachelorette Party.

April 29, 2013 | 1 Comment

Last month, I was hired to shoot Kaitlyn Johnson’s (now Mooney!) bachelorette party as a surprise to the bride-to-be by her maid of honor Amy. My friend Jeannie and I had already been hired previously to shoot Katie’s wedding, so when Amy requested I shoot the bachelorette party as well, I happily agreed. I’ve shot for Katie’s photography studio (The Rock Studio) in the past, and was thrilled to be able to photograph Katie on her own wedding day, as well as the festivities she was going to share with her closest lady friends on the day prior. She’s clearly a very talented photographer, and I was excited to be able to give her what she gives to her clients on a regular basis: beautiful memories of the happiest times in her life! :)

The girls all had a blast at the party, and Amy constantly surprised Katie with games to play throughout the evening. If you doubt the fun I say they all had, well, just take a look at the photos. I think they communicate the good times pretty accurately. ;)

February 12, 2013 | Post a Comment

Guess who’s back again!? Oh yeah, this lady is on a roll. Been on a roll in the field of photography thus far this year as well, WHICH ONLY MEANS MORE BLOG POSTS FOR YOU ALL TO FEAST YOUR EYEBALLS UPON SOON (hopefully)! ;)

So, to preface this post, I feel inclined to ask: Are you someone who enjoys looking at places you might not have visited yet? Do you like to look at pretty things? Do you like to go outside? If you said yes to all three of those questions, then first and foremost, let me congratulate you on being an awesome individual. We could be friends, undoubtedly. Second, you’ll very much enjoy the second half of my Year of 2012 blog post, as it highlights all of the places I had the opportunity to travel to last year. :) I went to a lot of different places, and met a lot of really, really fantastic people.

Anyways, now that I’ve rambled a little bit, I want to show you the things that I’ve seen. Brace yourselves, a) it’s going to be a big post again, and b) these places are beautiful. Contact your local travel agent immediately. Or just go outside. ;)

Joe and Jeannie 3.17.12

July 17, 2012 | 2 Comments

It only took me four months to get this wedding posted. But better late than never, right!? ;)

I knew Joe and Jeannie back when they used to work at the restaurant my parents manage, when their relationship was all shiny and new. Six, seven years later Jeannie emailed me asking if I wanted to photograph their wedding. I was thrilled!

Joe and Jeannie got married on St. Patrick’s day, in the middle of a torrential downpour. Luckily, the fire station next door let us use their garage for a couple of bridal party photos; Joe happens to be a fireman, and the guys next door were more than happy to help out on his wedding day. :)

Joe and Jeannie, I am so so happy for you both. Everyone always knew you two would be together forever, and I was so honored to be a part of your big day. Wishing you guys much love and happiness in your marriage! See ya around at EC! ;)

Again, huge thanks to Mr. Seth DeDoes for being an awesome second shooter, helping me out all day, and for catching this…

On our way to the reception, Seth got an AWESOME shot of the wiener-mobile! I might’ve started flipping out a bit in my seat… :)

Lunch with Jeannie.

November 21, 2011 | 2 Comments

Last time I saw Jeannie, we had decided to get lunch together and just relax for an afternoon.  Yet, even when we’re not working, we’re still shooting each other.  Especially when we have lunch right by an awesome little park :)  Here are a few from our walk around the park.

Hair thrashing underneath the bridge was my favorite part of the day.  Aside from the Pei-Wei we got for lunch ;)

Beach House in Ventura 2011.

September 3, 2011 | 3 Comments

It’s been almost two months since my boyfriend Matt and I headed up to Ventura to join his family at a beach house they rented for the week of 4th of July.  Going through these photos brings me back to a vacation of no stress, all relaxation, a little bit of beer and margaritas, and a lot of fun.

We saw a lot of cool things right in the backyard of this beach house on a somewhat regular basis.  The front yard was what I imagine a tropical garden would look like.  The sun set right where we could see all the colors of the horizon blazing.  One evening enormous pelican even landed on the rocks in the backyard and almost got into a fight with the family dog Winston!

Winston would NOT stop digging in the sand almost the entire time we were there!  I think the texture freaked him out a little bit.

We tried to find grunion, but found the police trying to catch people shooting off fireworks instead.

Winston tired himself out so much at the end of the trip that we posed him with a tequila bottle and he didn’t even move from his spot.

Funny faces :)

Home sweet home!

As some of you already know, Matt and I moved to Long Beach a few weeks ago.  We’re in an awesome little one bedroom apartment about 4 blocks away from the beach (so hurry up and tell us if you want to arrange a beach trip soon! ;) ).  It’s amazing, awesome and I’m having a blast living with my wonderful boyfriend.  Having never moved anywhere in my life before, it’s been quite an experience!  No doubt about that it’s a very exciting experience though :)

So now that we’ve had a chance to move in, get settled, and start figuring out our routines again, I was finally able to snap some shots around the new place!  We have no decorations up yet (posters, photos, anything framed, etc.), but we’ve got mostly everything else in order, so I’ve put together a photo-tour for you all to take through our new place today!

Let us begin.

Here is our apartment number and the porch leading to our door.  Yes, our door mat reads “Leave.”  It came with the place, and that’s super rad.

This is our living room – what you see when you first walk through the door.

Here’s our AWESOME rug :D

Our kitchen/dining place combo.

Gotta have a spot for alcohol ;)

Our work station.

Our hallway leading into the bedroom with a bunch of extra storage on the right.

The curtain holders to the left will someday be put up to hold back the curtains.

And here’s the bed!  About 3-4 feet tall – we’re thinking of getting rid of the GINORMOUS box springs soon.

So there’s the new place!  Hope you all enjoyed your tour through el casa de la Matt and Dannee :)  Let us know when you’d all like to come over and hang out soon.

Jill’s Birthday Party!

April 26, 2011 | 1 Comment

A few weeks ago Jill had her 24th birthday party in Long Beach.  Friends from near and far came to celebrate and enjoy this day with her.  There were guests from Sacramento and Texas!  Drinks, laughter, painting, dancing to win prizes, and an awesome venue thanks to Mr. Anthony Cruz!

Hope you all enjoy the photos!
